Bristol Sash Window Services - DRAUGHT PROOFING- 0117 900 0131

How long will it take?

A draught reduction service will take one person between four and five hours to complete.

How do you access the window?

The majority of services are conducted from the inside of the property. We need at least 2 square metres of space to work safely, but we can help move large items of furniture if necessary.

Do I need to do anything before you arrive?

We will normally put dust sheets out but you must make sure that all valuable equipment or furniture is either removed or safety covered and protected from dust.

If you have valuable curtains or blinds you may wish to remove them

If you have wooden floors that can be damaged by work benches or tools we suggest you cover these with cardboard or similar non slip protective material.

The sash window draught reduction service:

DRAUGHT PROOFING

Draught proofing sash windows will do four things; service your window to open and close smoothly, increase your personal comfort, reduce your fuel bills and cut your Co2 emissions.

Throughout the winter we are offering draught proofing services from just £189.00 plus VAT @ just 5% (£9.50)for windows up to 1700mm (5'7"') tall (excluding add weights if required).

THE FACTS & FIGURES:

English Heritage (http:www.english-heritage.org.uk/your-property/saving-energy/sash-windows/) suggest that servicing a window and then applying a draught reduction system will reduce draughts by as much as 90%.

To quantify this we asked the Energy Saving Trust (http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/) what this equated to in terms of cash and Co2 emissions. They provided the following response:

'The average financial benefit from draught-proofing all the single-glazed sash windows in a typical house is £25 per year. This equates to around 630 kWh and 120 kg CO2 saved over the course of a year.' (energysavingtrust 2010)

English Heritage also suggest that a close fitting set of blinds, thick lined curtains and shutters will further reduce heat loss by as much as 30% through each window..

How do we install a draught reduction system?:

  • Dismantling of the window
  • Checking, cleaning and lubricating the pulleys
  • Weighing the sashes and checking the weights for counter-balance
  • Scraping away the paint on areas that obstruct the movement of the sashes
  • Rout in brush strips to the upper and meeting rails
  • Re-cording the window with cotton sash cord and correct weights
  • Renew all parting bead and staff beads with a draught inlaid carrier bead
  • Re-fit sashes in alignment with the beading's
  • Paint all exposed timber with white primer
  • Wax and check for operation
